The Aktau mountains are one of the largest paleontological deposits in the world. Fossilized remains of ancient plants and animals were found here - giant rhinos, crocodiles and turtles that lived on the territory of modern Kazakhstan 30 million years ago. Aktau is more than 400 million years old chalk mountains, mostly white, but there are also blue and pink, red and green slopes that give the Aktau mountains a unique alien beauty. not without reason they are called "lunar" because of their unusual coloring.

The Katutau mountains are no less picturesque than the Aktau mountains and are formed as a result of the action of volcanoes. After volcanic eruptions, lava solidified and formed many figures, rocks and caves of a dark red color that are fantastic in appearance. Here you can also find outcrops of rocks and variegated clays, diverse in relief and color, giving a unique look to the mountain landscape. The mountains of Katutau in ancient times were also inhabited by people, as evidenced by rock paintings in the form of argali, goats, deer, domestic animals.

The Singing Dune is a sandy miracle that has been formed over the centuries. During the dry season, wind currents disperse the sand from the surface of the dune, forming a special melody. It is thanks to this amazing phenomenon that the Singing Dune has become the object of numerous superstitions and legends. Someone says that Genghis Khan and his army are buried under the desert, and someone believes that the frightening sound emitted by the dune is nothing more than the snoring of Shaitan who has fallen asleep here forever.

On the territory of the national park there are tracts with warm radon springs, where huge trees grow - willows. Radon waters are considered healing and help a person heal from many diseases. In one of the tracts of Kosbastau, a 700-year-old willow grows, its branches in the form of thick trunks rest on the ground, and several people can hug the tree, holding hands. The tree is considered sacred and its damage, according to legend, brings death. According to legend, in the 12th century, the formidable Genghis Khan rested under this willow with his army during a campaign against Central Asia.
