Charyn Canyon

Charyn Canyon is a picturesque deep gorge in Kazakhstan, stretching for 154 km along the valley of the Charyn River, near the border with China and Kyrgyzstan. This is one of the places on Earth, from the beauty and grandeur of which is breathtaking. Given the size and geological features of the Charyn Canyon, it is often referred to as the "little brother" of one of the largest gorges on the planet - the American Grand Canyon. Reddish rocks similar to fortress towers and abysses from 150 to 300 m deep impress everyone who has been here.

More than 12 million years ago, the Charyn River, flowing from the northern Tien Shan, formed a canyon. Layered massifs, 150-300 meters high, stretch for 154 km. The red clay walls are covered with deep wrinkles and gorges. If you look at the clay foundations of the canyon for a long time and intently, you can “see” a whole ancient city, which seems to come to life under the rays of the setting sun. In the canyon, time and natural factors have made countless grottoes, caves, huge cracks, as if painting the entire canyon with them.
