Issyk (another name for the lake is Yesik, which means "door" in Kazakh) is a picturesque, high-altitude lake surrounded by unusually beautiful nature of dense forests.
Lake Issyk, according to geologists, was formed about 8-10 thousand years ago as a result of a mountain collapse, which created a natural dam about 300 meters high.Today the depth of the lake is up to 80 meters. The water temperature even in summer does not exceed 8 degrees.
Lake Issyk is located on the territory of Ile-Alatau National Park and is one of its main attractions. On the eastern and southern sides of the lake lies the border of the Almaty State Nature Reserve.
It's worth mentioning that the area where the lake is located has excellent ecology. A trip to Lake Issyk will especially appeal to lovers of mountain tourism and outdoor activities, as well as connoisseurs of wildlife.
