Asy Plateau and Bear Waterfall (2 days)

Duration

2 days

Walking distance

4 km

Group size

50 people

Asy is a high-mountain plateau located about 75 kilometers from the city of Almaty, on the territory of the Ile-Alatau National Park. The plateau is a valley of subalpine meadows and begins at the Kishi Turgen River, extending for 60 kilometers. The altitude of the plateau varies from 2800 to 3200 meters above sea level.

The main feature of the natural location is the Astrophysical Observatory Assi Turgen (2750 meters), which was built in 1975. The structure was built here because of the ideal astral climate and the absence of light pollution. Also, the Assy plateau is an ideal place for stargazing.

Bear Falls owes its name to Bear Creek, into which it flows, which in turn is named for the bear family that lives nearby. Bear Falls is a gushing stream of water, which crashes noisily on the rocks and forms a truly magnificent spectacle. It is as much as 30 meters high.
